Any Tips For Lowering Blood Sugars? Already Balancing Diet And Exercise
My son is 18 and can't get his sugars below 300. He uses the Dexcom G6 and Omnipod 5 and they just added long acting Lantus so we are hoping that helps. They go higher in the evening and really high while he sleeps.
Jennifer,
I’m sorry you and your son are going through this!
Have you checked calibration on the Omnipod and Dexcom? My doctor says I should calibrate about every 2-3 days.
If this situation doesn’t get cleared up soon, I’d be looking for a new doctor.
Heartfelt thoughts for you and your son. ❤️❤️
One other thought - he is still in puberty, which can cause insulin resistance. I know when I went through puberty I was taking close to 3x the amount insulin that I normally take. His doctor may need to make more increases to his insulin.
Lyumjev works well for me - it's a fast-acting insulin.
Yeah he is pretty thin. Sometimes the needle doesn't go in. He does use patches to help keep them on because he had issues with that too. He has to use patches for his Dexcom too.
I just thought of something else.
When your son is putting on a new pod, have him hold it close to his body while inserting the cannula. My blood sugars rose significantly one evening. I called Omnipod and they told me sometimes diabetics don’t have enough fat on them for the cannula to insert properly and to hold it close to the skin/body while it is inserting. This helped me. No more issues. 😊
The Omnipod team is great!!!
