A myT1Dteam Member asked a question 💭
Memphis, TN

Shared appetizers - fried calamari, spinach/artichoke dip, mozzarella & insalata caprese
Entree Zuppa Di Pesce with
Shrimp, clams, scungilli, mussels & scallops in a fresh tomato sauce with a small amount of angel hair pasta which I did not eat the pasta

This morning my blood sugar is all over the place and high

So what should I have not eaten?

Thanks!!

It is not only what you eat but how much you eat. Protein digests more slowly, but it still digests. Tomatoes are easily converted into sugars. And you do not know how the dip was prepared. I am type 1, and ask questions all the time. But then I can also inject more or less R to compensate for variations in a meal.

Tomatoes will raise blood sugar. Protein digests more slowly than sugar and carbs, but it still breaks down into those components. to eat more, more insulin is needed.

For large meals, particularly high fat and high protein meals, I suggest using a square wave bolus if your pump offers it. Otherwise, check your blood sugar every couple of hours and bolus accordingly. Remember that meals high in protein often raise blood sugar levels because some of the protein is converted to carbs. Far digests slowly, with the net effect of carbs releasing over a long period of time.
