Thank you both for your answers and kind words. I'm 44 years in with this battle. I work hard now, but didn't always take great care of myself when I was young. Those days are starting to bite me now a little bit. My oldest child was just recently diagnosed with it. I'm just tired and having to help manage a second fight is a new level of exhausting which is why I was hoping to find a therapist who "gets it." I asked my endocrinologist and she wants me to see a pyschiatrist to get medicated. I want to roll my eyes at that, but alas I refrain lol. Anyway, thanks again! Have a wonderful day!

Finding a therapist who specializes in Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) may be challenging. Only those with T1D can truly comprehend the profound impact of this condition.

Managing Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is akin to a full-time job; it involves a constant struggle against a host of complications. T1D is a significant cause of serious conditions that can affect the eyes, heart, and kidneys (I'll stop). In this battle, one must be a warrior! I may lose daily skirmishes with T1D, but I am winning the war. Keeping your numbers in check can alleviate most of the stress. This group is a great support! Before joining, I believed I was among the longest-living diabetics. This was disproven when I met someone who has lived with T1D for 60 years. That encounter was more uplifting than ten therapy sessions!

Hi Jenn, I truly wish there were more therapist out there that understood this daily battle and how exhausting it can be! Truth is, just finding any good therapist is hard! One you can personally relate to! After almost 40 yrs of on and off therapy I finally found one who motivated me with DBT - dialectical behavioral therapy. She made sense. And with what Kevin said I beleive having like minded support is key. Groups like these can help to just be able to vent and hear others stories to know you're not alone. Having to take care of you and your child does sound exhausting but you have so many life experiences to share with your child and the thought of saving them from at least one of your own hardships can be so rewarding. You also have someone to do this together with now, neither of you are alone! Personally if I can help one person short cut or support this disease, even for a day, I beleive that day becomes rewarding. You have a team of your own now, plus this group and many more. Keep sharing and knowing you can help your child maybe avoid some of the hurdles your have jumped over through your life! And yes agreed, rolling eyes, psychiatrist just throw drugs at you to numb the pain, they don't guide you! One day at a time, each day is a new day! Make it a great one.

Hi Jenn , i too had this problem and while some were great, others not so much. I first searched the local T1D facebook groups, found a group meeting for T1D but that didn't last more than a couple of months. Asked my local ADA chapter and JDFR, gave me a couple of names...no one taking new patients. I finally just searched my health insurance for some good, recommended therapist and put my daughter into a group therapy. She then became friends with one of their therapists and I helped educate the therapist on what T1D was as how it affects her emotions, especially if she was over 300 in sessions. 1st find some you are comfortable with, then you can educate them on how mood is affected by highs and lows and how important it is to be proactive with this autoimmune disease. And always reach out to family and friends for support! Even call the hotline numbers when you are really down just to let it out! Today end with gratitude, Tomorrow begin with YES I CAN. You got this🤩
