Get a good medical team (endo, nutritionist, educator) and that gives positive support, not negative.
Set realistic goals and be patient when trying to attain those goals.
You can only do your best, you will make mistakes, you will always learn new things and tips from others who are dealing with the disease.
Realize that what works most days may not work all the time and don't beat yourself up when it doesn't.
Don't deprive yourself.
It is a hidden disease that we deal with 24/7 and it can take up a lot of our time. Those who don't have this, have no idea what we deal with day in day out. Don't be afraid to share with family and friends or a professional if necessary when you are having a tough time.

Find the endocrinologist you feel comfortable with that encourages you, doesn't judge you, and takes time to answer your questions. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed or stressed about your numbers... it's a journey not a game of winning or losing. Basics for anyone diabetic or not - stay hydrated, eat healthy but don't deprive yourself, and exercise in whatever way you enjoy.

Don't let it get you down. Realize that this is a journey and there are all kinds of twists and turns which will frustrate the daylights out of you, so just go with it. Ask for advice, like on this site, and realize that most people not diabetic have no idea what you're going through. Been doing this for 49 years and still going. Stay in good physical condition is important, or get there if not. I ref soccer for up to 49 miles in a 3 day weekend and I'm 72, so it can be done. Just don't quit. You're worth it
