High Blood Glucose After Eating High Fat Low Carb Foods?

A myT1Dteam Member asked a question 💭

Hello All! I've noticed this pattern for myself where my glucose levels get pretty high when I eat foods high in fat and low in carbs. I know fats can slow down the digestion/absorption of food and can cause your sugars to "remain higher for longer". But, I notice this happening even when I eat something very low carb or zero carb (like pork rinds, keto cheese & meat snacks, etc. - all below 5-10 carbs). Does anyone else have this problem? Any tips on how to deal with it?

Same here-- snacks of any kind ruin your levels for the day-- can't eat just one so I don't eat any-- I have a caffeine to curb appetite and wait for my meal. 3 years into this and only on 2 shots of basal insulin per day.

Are you dosing for those 5-10g of carbs in your low carb, high protein meal??? And are you dosing for the protein?

I eat very low carb, high protein. I prebolus for the few carbs from veggies and eggs and dairy in a meal, and then I postbolus to cover protein. I used to use extended bolus on my pump - but now use a different insulin entirely and it works really well!

This is a fairly standard day - doses are marked on my Dex graph. But especially when eating lower carb, protein needs to be dosed for.
