High blood sugar in the morning can be frustrating. Here are some suggestions based on my knowledge base:

- Eat Early: Aim to eat breakfast within an hour of waking up to help balance morning blood sugar.
- Healthy Breakfast: Include protein, healthy fats, and fiber-rich carbohydrates in your breakfast to prevent a spike in blood glucose.
- Hydrate: Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning to help dilute glucose in your blood.
- Consult Your Healthcare Provider: If your insulin therapy isn’t working well, you may need to adjust your treatment plan.

If these tips don't help, it's important to discuss with your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

My blood sugars spike as soon as my feet touch the ground when I wake up. I have to take 6units of fast acting insulin with my morning coffee. Then wait an hour to eat breakfast. However I’m the worst at skipping meals. I sure hope your Dr find a solution that helps you. I’m stuck on my amount of long acting insulin, one more unit makes me drop in my sleep & one less doesn’t keep me in the green. So I just wake up to taking fast acting insulin.

Hi- yes. I agree. The dawn phenomenon is most likely the cause. However, someone told me once to make sure you eat lots of protein in the morning. Seems to work for me. Blood sugar is pretty stable most days.
You could also dose a little extra insulin to counteract the effects. Sometimes I have to do this. Not too much though. Don’t want to go low.
Hope this helps😊

High blood sugar in the morning may be caused by the dawn phenomenon. Talk to your doctor about this and what to do.
