In my experience, the DRs wanted her on a pump as soon as honeymoon period was over. Took about 3-5 months of small increments of increasing insulin before they knew what her carb ratio and correction factors would be. Also have to factor in Hormones at that age, they make numbers a bigger roller-coaster. With that said, I did not put her on a pump for about 2 years because I wanted her to learn how to count carbs, how to carry supplies at all times and bolus WHEN eating. I wanted her to learn her body and signs of highs and lows to prepare for the day when she didn't have a pump or it malfunctioned, out in the world on her own. Just my way of looking at things and I feel it worked as she now knows much more than her other 21 yr old T1D friends about diabetes management (and a lower A1C). Most parents and drs believe it is most important to get the numbers under control with the tech now available as soon as possible, which is true, but what happens in today's world if your phone breaks? Total devastation and loss
