@A myT1Dteam Member COVID didn’t give you T1D. And your pancreas isn’t dead. Only beta cells are. You genetically had the predisposition to T1D - which means you had the genetic markers that can be tested for. COVID May have been the illness that flipped the switch though, and turned your T1d on.

Illness, stress, injuries, other medical treatments, etc. can all act as the flip switcher.

But you didn’t get it from COVID - COVID was just what flipped your diabetes on.

I was dxd with LADA at 67, coincidental with COVID. Multiple vaccinations. I will say that I have been ANA positive for 20 years, just no pattern. So not a great surprise to develop an autoimmune process.

I got covid then T1D at 63. Same thing. Very unusual however a higher % of covid patients came out with T1D.

I am 80. I got T1D at 79 after a Covid infection. Even my doctors think this is unusual.
