What’s One Thing About Type 1 Diabetes That People Rarely Discuss But Should?
Why don’t doctors test for LADA before they make a final diabetic diagnosis. So many adults are wrongly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for years. Yet doctors will not check for LADA. This causes so much harm to a persons body. Doctors need to be more proactive with diabetes and diabetes diagnosis.
I think a lot of people don’t discuss the fact that it’s slow progressing with complications and it doesn’t happen all at once. You hear you will go blind, your kidneys will fail, or your feet can get amputated so bc after years of having it and I didn’t go blind and my feet were fine, kidneys fine I thought maybe I was misdiagnosed or they were just trying to scare me. Little did I know it could take years or decades for these complications to show. Just try to keep blood sugars as level as possible to help keep these complications from happening, bc they will happen if you are not in good control.
The one thing I've noticed with my daughter's care team is they rarely discuss the new research and technology that is in work. I've found learning about all the new developments related to diabetes gives me hope for a day when my child will no longer be burdened by her condition. I envision a future where there is a cure for her. Knowing that there are individuals in this world that have been cured of type 1 diabetes gives me great hope for her future.
Misdiagnosed as a type 2. MY sister had Type1. So I started passing out, being on Metformin, and diabetic through 2 pregnancies. Finally got it straightened out
I'm on it. I have some calls into my endo & also tandem & omnipod. Just waiting to hear back. I'm hoping to set up an appt with the tandem rep to actually see the pumps they have soon.
