I Am Interested In The OmniPod, I Would Like To Know About People's Experiences With It.
I was a Type 2 for 15 years and recently it was discovered that I am no longer making insulin.
I Have a Medtronic pump with the tubing. I also have Medicare. The fact that it falls under prescriptions the omnipod would quickly throw me into Medicare donut hole where I would have a lot of expense. Under Medicare all expenses plus insulin are covered as durable medical equipment. I have had Medtronic for about 24 years. I just got the newest one which will have the cgm to go with it. I can't wait. I am tired of adjusting!
I use an Omnipod and love it. It will work for an additional 8 hours after your 3 day time.. ask Omnipod or diabetic educator how to extend time. I just carry my controller in a pocket or set it by me… or purse if shopping…anyway. I’m also able to stop my insulin during activities so I don’t get low. Anyway, I looked at all types of pumps and chose Omnipod. I didn’t want a tube for fear of catching it on things. Sometimes I do feel it’s big but stays on and I put it on my arms, legs, stomach etc. and do fine…even if it “sticks out” on my stomach. I just wear clothes to help disquise it… Anyway, I’d just look at all the pumps and see what you think you’d like
I too, was not as fan of the Omnipod due to the fact that it is a prescription item and not durable medical like the other pumps.
I was not a fan of the Omnipod. Call the company or ask your Endo and you can get a dummy to stick to your body and wear for a few days. I thought it was huge and I knocked it on all kinds of things like doors and the car. Over and over. Snagged every pull over my head piece of clothing too!! Hated it. You also have no cannula choice with Omnipod, a hard shut off at 3 days exactly, and screamers happen along with leaking pods and bad cannulas. Definitely get some feed back and get a sample of you can!!
The Omnipod is bulky and it is easy to bang on door walls or catch on anything really it is just a pain to deal with. I need more than 200 units and with that I am changing pods every 2 days, I am currently using theb Tandem T-Slim X2 Pump. It does have a canula but it comes in three different lengths, 23 in, 32 in and 43 inch, The pump also has a program that the doctor can write a script for called Control IQ in which it works hand in hand with your CGM which I hope you are using one. It stops from experiencing multiple low blood sugars. If you are dropping fast it slows your delivery down and if you drop below your set target blood sugar it stops your insulin delivery while checking your blood sugar every 5 minuets and restarting it when your are back to a safe level. It has sleep mode with Control IQ stopping potential low blood sugars at night. You would yourself justice in looking into this pump as Omnipod does not do any of these things and truthfully getting used to the canula will not take long. Please message me with any questions that you may have.
I Would Like To Know If You Are Using An Omni Pod And Whether Or Not You Like It Or Have Issues With It. I’m Considering Going On A Pump.
I Will Be Meeting With My New Endocrinologist Next Week. I Want To Ask Him If I Can Get On The Omnipod 5. Is Anyone On A Pump? Pros & Cons?
