My Sugars Keep Go Very Low After Dinner, Then A Couple Hours Later It Will Go In The High 200’s. Not Sure Why.

A myT1Dteam Member asked a question 💭
Jacksonville, FL

I’m the primary medical caregiver for my husband who has congestive-end stage heart failure and the doctors say there is nothing more they can do for him. I have a son going through aggressive cancer, hoping he will beat it. Not sure if all the stress is causing my issues. My eating habits are bad, forget to eat or take my bolus after I eat. Get little sleep.

Insulin Pumps

A myT1Dteam Member asked a question 💭
Slidell, LA

I was diagnosed a year ago with Type 1 at the age of 64. My doctor is recommending that I consider an insulin pump and has given me brochures on the omnipod5, t-slim x2, and ilet bionic pancreas. I currently use the Dexcon G7 glucose monitor.

Any recommendations, pros/cons on any of these devices would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kelly D

I currently use the Tandem T:slim X2 with the Dexcom G6 (switching to the G7 as soon as we can get a PA for it). I like it because I keep my blood sugars in tight range and with this pump I can… read more

Yes. Novolin N - I used a fast acting insulin to help level out what more exercise and diet control didn't make better. Now I use a pump. Humalog acts much more predictably than type R insulin. It… read more

High Blood Glucose After Eating High Fat Low Carb Foods?

A myT1Dteam Member asked a question 💭
Nashville, TN

Hello All! I've noticed this pattern for myself where my glucose levels get pretty high when I eat foods high in fat and low in carbs. I know fats can slow down the digestion/absorption of food and can cause your sugars to "remain higher for longer". But, I notice this happening even when I eat something very low carb or zero carb (like pork rinds, keto cheese & meat snacks, etc. - all below 5-10 carbs). Does anyone else have this problem? Any tips on how to deal with it?

A myT1Dteam Member

Same here-- snacks of any kind ruin your levels for the day-- can't eat just one so I don't eat any-- I have a caffeine to curb appetite and wait for my meal. 3 years into this and only on 2 shots of… read more

Tips For Drinking Beer/Alcohol?

A myT1Dteam Member asked a question 💭
Nashville, TN

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how you count carbs/manage insulin for when you are drinking (beer specifically). I work at a brewery and I would love to enjoy one of our tasty brews every now and then, but the information I've found online about the carbs in beer isn't super helpful. We have a lot of higher ABV IPAs and sours, which I can't find info on.
